10 Easy Tips for Clutter & Time Management

 

  1. Assign one spot on your desk for ‘Urgent’ to-do’s. Make sure that this spot is cleared within 24 hours.

  2. Use vertical file holders – not horizontal trays – on your desk for current work projects.

  3. Leave your keys and sunglasses in the same spot every day after you enter the house or office.

  4. Do mindless paperwork (or other) tasks for ½ hour or so when you need a break from tiring or creative work.

  5. Sort your mail every day over the recycling bin, throwing away junk mail on the spot (or shredding personal information).

  6. If you pick up a telemarketing call, answer: “We don’t accept phone solicitations; please take my name off your list.” They are required by law to remove your name upon request, and they usually hang up immediately!

  7. Take a 10 to 15 minute ‘refresh-the-spirit’ break at least once a day. Do whatever revitalizes you, for instance:

    • Take a walk
    • Sit in the back yard
    • Put your feet up and close your eyes
    • Dance to a favorite tune
    • Take a cat nap
    • Play with your dog, cat or iguana

  8. Consolidate all your upcoming work and personal dates into only one calendar, and keep it with you wherever you go. Don’t lose it.

  9. Give yourself small rewards for a job well done.

  10. Breathe.
